I have tried this, but as soon as I reboot I get a popup next startup that says that I need updates, when I install the updates it installs the same flavor of the touchpad driver and recreates the problem. Any suggestions?

Try the uninstall without the SILENT switch. Make sure you succeed on the uninstall.
