While researching populating enterprise backgrounds for Teams conversations. I discovered a nice trick to enable GIF backgrounds in Teams.
Microsoft teams has apparently hard coded the backgrounds it accepts to JPG or PNG picture types. JPG file type does support GIF style animated graphics. The trick here is save a *.GIF file as *.JPG. Just rename the file! Tip: Make sure you use a descriptive file name
Backgrounds are a per user configuration.
Copy the JPG (renamed from GIF) to this location. Replace the bold with your user name.
Why? Because you didn’t use the GUI to upload the instruction. Restarting Teams allows this to be imported.
How does this look?
The files appear but no preview. Selecting works fine
